Standard child support is the amount per child for a household of two parents and two children. Depending on the family's circumstances, the court may raise (increase) or lower (decrease) the amount. If you know an amount, enter it as a monthly amount per child.

With 1 child, the amount is often set a little above the table amount (an increase).

The table this calculator uses

2021 Child Support Guidelines (Seoul Family Court, published December 22, 2021). These are average monthly child support amounts per child for a household of two parents and two children. The court uses this table as a starting point and sets the amount taking into account the child's standard of living, the parents' assets and debts, where they live, the custody arrangement and other circumstances.

Custodial parent · non-custodial parent
After divorce, the parent who lives with and raises the child is the custodial parent, and the parent who lives apart is the non-custodial parent. Usually the non-custodial parent pays child support.
Standard child support
The average amount set in the court's Child Support Guidelines table according to the parents' income and the child's age.
Increase · decrease
Adding to or subtracting from the standard child support depending on the circumstances.
Income before tax
Income before taxes and the four social insurance contributions are deducted.

Frequently asked questions

How is child support calculated?
The standard child support per child is found in the 2021 Child Support Guidelines using the parents' combined monthly income before tax and the child's age. That amount is divided by the ratio of the parents' incomes: non-custodial parent's share = child support × non-custodial parent's income ÷ combined income.
Is income counted before or after tax?
Before tax. Enter the monthly total before tax of salary, business income, rental income, interest, pensions and so on, including government benefits.
Does the amount change with 1 child or with 3 or more children?
The table gives an amount per child for a household of two parents and two children. So with 1 child the amount is often set a little higher (an increase) and with 3 or more children a little lower (a decrease), and circumstances such as where you live or the parents' assets can also lead to an increase or decrease.
Will child support be set at the amount the calculator shows?
The table amount is the court's starting point; the actual child support is set by the court after also looking at the child's standard of living, the parents' assets and debts, where they live and the custody arrangement. If the parents' combined income is KRW 12 million or more a month, the table has no upper limit, so the amount may be set higher than the table.

This is a reference calculation based on the court's guidelines table. The actual amount may be set differently by the court depending on the child's standard of living, the parents' assets and debts, the custody arrangement and other circumstances. Talk to a lawyer before making any decision.
